Marcel Sitcoske Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by artist Thomas Zummer. The exhibition opens Tuesday, April 20.
The title of Thomas Zummer’s new exhibition refers not to the life of the artist, nor to the dates of works, but to the field of references which the works address. The key to these drawings, sculptures, and constructions lies in understanding where images come from, and how they enter into art and language. Zummer questions the origins of drawing by tampering with the process of reference. In this exhibition there are exquisite drawings of photocopies of lightbulbs, drawings of 3D computer models that the artist has made, or drawings of fragments of photographs and found texts. All of the works trace the ways technologies (such as photography, cinema, print or digital media) intercede between perception and reference. Thomas Zummer currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.
